When Did I Conceive?

When Did I Conceive?

So, you’re pregnant—and one of your first questions might be: When exactly did I conceive? And how do I figure out who the father is?  If you’re looking for answers right away, you can text a nurse anonymously and for free at (251) 297-3160.

Unlike your period, pinpointing the exact day of conception isn’t always straightforward. But your body follows a natural cycle that can give you a good estimate. Knowing when you ovulated gives you the best clue about when you might have conceived.

What Date Did I Conceive?

You can be just a few weeks along—or much further—and still calculate a general timeframe for when conception happened.

Ovulation, the short window when pregnancy is possible, usually happens about 14 days after the first day of your last period. It typically lasts 2–3 days, and that’s when your body is most fertile.

Conception Date Calculator

To get an idea of when you conceived, start by remembering the first day of your last menstrual period. From there, count forward about two weeks—that’s likely when you ovulated.

If tracking your cycle feels overwhelming, there are free online calculators that can do the math for you. Or you can reach out—we’re happy to walk you through it. Just send a quick message to (251) 297-3160.

Keep in mind, everyone’s body is different. While this method works for many, every person’s cycle is a little different. Some ovulate earlier or later in their cycle, and the ovulation window can vary in length.

Also, sperm can live inside the body for up to five days, so sex that happened several days before ovulation may still lead to pregnancy.1, 2

Conception Date from Ultrasound

Another way to estimate when you conceived is through an ultrasound. During early pregnancy, babies develop at a steady pace, so an ultrasound can give a fairly accurate measure of how far along you are. It’s also helpful for confirming a viable pregnancy, checking for miscarriage, or ruling out an ectopic pregnancy.3

You can schedule an ultrasound with an OBGYN, though that may involve insurance or billing. If you're looking for a free, confidential option, your local pregnancy center may offer ultrasound services at no cost.
